Senior Financial Analyst at Databricks

Summary of the role

Databricks, founded by the co-creators of the wildly popular Big Data analytics technology Apache Spark, is focused on making Big Data simple.  Databricks’ customers extract tremendous value out of its Cloud offering and the combination of data processing and advanced analytics capabilities.  The primary target audiences are data scientists and data engineers. 

Company growth requires more financial resources.  This position will report to the Director of Finance in an individual contributor role in the planning department.  You and the Director of Finance will expand and refine the reporting, analysis, and planning for the company.  We will build on a solid foundation so that operational information is timely, accurate, and relevant.

The Senior Financial Analyst will be the primary operations financial analyst and business partner for the R&D, Marketing and G&A groups and will prepare reports, dashboards, budgets, forecasts, analysis, and meeting materials; will own headcount and spending forecasts and reporting; will work closely with the Director of Finance and SVP of Finance to meet the operational and financial planning needs of the company.

Mission

This job exists to plan, analyze, and report on the operations and finances of the business by:

  1. Supporting the R&D, Marketing, and G&A functions of the business to meet their financial objectives.

  2. Planning the future state of the business through budgets and forecasts.

  3. Reporting on financial progress towards achieving the budgets and forecasts.

  4. Analyzing key elements of the business and the factors driving the business elements.

  5. Make recommendations to management based on analysis of the business factors. 

Outcomes

  1. Immediately support the groups as finance partner providing budgets, forecasts, reports and analysis.

  2. Support the long range plan activities this summer.

  3. By the end of 2018 develop the 2019 Budget with the financial planning team and management.

  4. Own elements of the monthly and quarterly Financial Dashboards. Refine and improve the Dashboard elements as required.

  5. As a member of the Finance team implement and maintain systems and methods of obtaining and disseminating operational information.

 Responsibilities

  1. Maintain the tools providing detailed information regarding actual and forecasted spending by vendor. Source of data is Netsuite for accounting and Adaptive Insights for forecasting.

  2. Develop budgets, forecasts and key metrics for the functional operating groups (HR, Finance, IT, Legal, Facilities, R&D, and Marketing).

  3. Each month and quarter track, analyze and report on variances to budgets and forecasts.

Competencies / Requirements

  1. Understanding of financial and operational accounting.

  2. Financial analysis, planning, and modeling experience.

  3. Understanding of business models and modeling practices.

  4. Ability to identify the core business issues and how to address those issues through analysis and recommendations.

  5. Excellent communication skills.

  6. Experience with systems such as Netsuite, salesforce.com, Adaptive Insights etc.
