Under the general supervision of the Utilities Engineering Manager, the Utilities Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the West Coast Utilities Team who is responsible for establishing natural gas service and obtaining interconnection approval on behalf of Bloom Energy and its customers. This position will also focus on interfacing with new utilities and building on the existing relationships with familiar utilities, with the goal of an increasingly efficient and shortened project development cycle.
This position is ideal for an individual that enjoys managing both the tactical project challenges as well as those of building a team and putting their mark on a growing organization.
Role and Responsibilities:
Works with the Utilities Engineering Manager to implement projects, programs, and staffing aimed at achieving departmental mission and long-term objectives.
Assists in the overall planning, organization and management of the Utilities Team, including general administration and policy development.
Maintains cooperative relations and coordinates department activities with other internal departments. Attends meetings, conducts research, compiles information, completes special projects and various reports, and makes presentations.
Interface directly with customers and relevant utilities. Develop and maintain relationships with utility stakeholders.
Support the team in investigating utility rules and tariffs in new territories.
Support the team in review and development of utility contracts and agreements.
Keeps abreast of developments in the field, new rules & regulations, utility processes, legislative issues and other current events.
Educate customers, local authorities, and utilities on basic operation of Bloom Energy fuel cell systems
Represent Bloom Energy at industry forums and events, interface with consulting engineering firms as appropriate
Skills and Experience:
5-8 years of experience in a utility focused role. Electrical Engineering background preferred.
3-5 years management experience
Knowledge of interconnection standards (Rule 21 and other interconnection standards) is essential
Strong project management and multitasking skills
Ability to switch between the strategic (e.g. developing process improvement plans with utility) and tactical (e.g. mitigation of short term scheduling risks)
Ability to develop creative solutions to navigate challenging utility space
Professional & collaborative – comfortable working closely with a team
Self-starter - proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills that include a minimum of the following:
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience.
Ability to interact with all levels of an organization effectively, from facilities personnel to financial leadership.
Proficient in MS Office
