To have an impact in this environment, we’re pursuing a new type of marketing we call Creatively Analytic. The idea is to marry inspired storytelling that has built the leading brand in personal productivity with big data and marketing automation to deliver personalized messages at the time when they resonate best. You would be responsible for defining the technologies we need and turning those into powerful owned media channels to make this possible.

If you have a problem solving mindset to merge technical innovation with marketing, the leadership experience to build a team to do so, the interpersonal skills to influence an organization, and the passion for making others (both our users and other Evernoters) more successful, we hope you’ll consider joining us on our mission to build an extension of the brain. You would report to the CMO and your responsibilities would include:

Front end developers who can bring creativity and consistent delivery so that marketing is always having an impact
Instill best practices, processes and technical thought leadership across marketing, analytics and your peer group

Defining the future marketing stack and tools necessary to put Evernote on the leading edge of marketing technology by:
Constructing a long term plan for the marketing tool ecosystem that begins with web, campaign management, targeting and latency and ends with emerging technologies such as machine learning and unstructured data
Framing and owning Make vs. Buy decisions for key pieces of the marketing tool set and then evaluating, selecting and maintaining vendor relationships
Turning the petabytes of data we house into a customer database that enables personalized marketing

Building and maintaining the tools necessary for a robust suite of owned and earned digital marketing channels
Partnering with the product and engineering organization to bring this vision for our technical stack to fruition
Ensure scalable, consistent and insightful tracking capabilities and measurement definitions that enable marketing, sales, product and finance teams to grow the business
Manage integrations and dependencies for standard owned channels like email, website, in-app messaging and SMS to ensure operational uptime and SLAs
Lead strategic metrics and systems definitions as new channels come online

Constructing the underpinnings for a fully personalized user experience across all marketing touchpoints by
Partnering with Customer Marketing, Product, Data, and Engineering teams to develop a personalization capability that extends across Evernote touch points
Finding opportunities for automation based on prior experience and creative problem solving
Implementing a dynamic testing platform and a testing culture to enable continuous improvement and optimizing
Measuring, monitoring and maintaining our channels to protect users and brand by establishing and enforcing policies for communication such as contact strategy, messaging guidelines

Desired Skills & Experience

10+ years experience building, integrating and managing marketing tools including at least five years of experience with automation across multiple channels such as email and SMS
Global experience with the challenges of localization and multiple languages is a big plus - more than 80% of Evernote users are outside of the US
Technical aptitude (ideally including HTML, PHP and/or Java coding) to connect business needs with software tools and evaluate the implementation options
Deep web experience including both B2C engagement and B2B sales that would include experience selecting and implementing content management systems with an eye toward the scale we plan to achieve
Curiosity for emerging marketing technologies (e.g. next gen personalization and campaign management tools)
Vendor management and negotiation of multi-million dollar contracts
A love for testing and nerding out on basis point improvements
Experience at an “M2” level - i.e. managing managers
A compelling reason to believe in Evernote
Boundless sense of humor in stressful situations
