Software Engineer - Growth at Sentry
San Francisco, CA, US

About Sentry

Sentry's mission is to empower software development teams to build better products, faster. Our crash reporting platform helps almost a million developers and tens of thousands of software teams at some of the internet's most loved websites/apps (Dropbox, Uber, Airbnb, Stripe, Atlassian, and many more) discover, triage, and resolve production software issues, so they can spend less time debugging and more time building software.

Growth Engineering

The Growth team's goal is to make Sentry as standard as Git in the developer tool belt. Just as product engineering builds systems that capture errors, growth builds systems that capture market share. Growth is a process, and all processes can be codified, instrumented, improved, and automated.

The Growth team is a multi-disciplinary team that uses data, product and engineering to understand how Sentry grows today and what the most effective growth approaches of the future could look like. As an early engineer on the team you’ll bring your technical skills to bear on this problem, and work with multiple functions including product, marketing, and design to help define a roadmap for growth.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Focuses on measurable, impactful work regardless of the learning curve
  • Backs assumptions with data and runs experiments to validate hypotheses
  • Is able to iterate quickly and independently, without creating long-term technical debt
  • Views growth as the responsibility of not a single team but the whole organization

Responsibilities

  • Map out our qualitative and quantitative growth model by identifying missing pieces of data and instrumenting the product; use customer surveys and other methods to augment our understanding where necessary
  • Proactively identify opportunities for growth
  • Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business teams to define, implement, test and roll out new features
  • Analyze the results of experiments and use that to refine our model; improve our our analytics and experimentation infrastructure to increase our overall agility
  • Lead engineering discussions and write abstractions that enable us to move and learn faster
  • Identify key metrics and ensure that we work toward them

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a software engineer and/or role with relevant experience (similar roles include Growth Engineer, Full-stack engineer, a (very) technical Product Manager)
  • Experience with Python and/or Javascript
  • Live in the San Francisco Bay Area, or are willing to relocate

Benefits

  • Contribute to an open source product used by tens of thousands of companies
  • Be part of an experienced and renowned team that has worked on some of the world's most popular software products and open source tools
  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage
