About the Team and the Role


The Office of the CTO Eng Strategy’s mission is to ensure the current and future health of Uber Engineering. We achieve this through the following:


  1. Eng Excellence Task Force: A small engineering team that works on high impact cross-company tactical (e.g. changes that require understanding Uber’s entire stack) and strategic (e.g. tools to support Uber Engineering manage complexity at scale) projects.
  2. Capability Development: This team identifies areas (such as “connected car” technologies) and building MVPs, teams and capabilities using these that could become part of Uber’s technical advantage.


We are looking for a "Technical Lead Manager" who would be responsible for managing both teams. Expected team size is small-ish (approximately 10 people) but may expand to allow for capacity development projects if and when they move beyond proofs of concept.


What You'll Need

  • Technical knowledge of Uber’s stack.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new domains.
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguous situations with minimal oversight.
  • Must have completed Apprentice TLM program or equivalent experience outside of Uber.


Bonus Points

  • Proven track record of working effectively in large organizations.
  • Proven track record of taking complex projects all the way from concept to production.
  • Proven track record in managing, growing and mentoring small teams
  • Research experience (e.g. PhD).
  • Work at small technology startups.
